Dipl.Ing. Peter Gottwald
Naval architect, FH KielGottwald Engineering was founded 1996 in Schleswig, 120km north of Hamburg and 30km from the Danish border. The office is located at a fjord of the Baltic Sea called Schlei. Schleswig was one of the most famous cities for the past 1000 years. Innovative ideas were born in this small town. Starting with the vikings who had their main centre of trade here, and their main port for voyages across the North Sea and Atlantic as well as the Baltic Sea; Schleswig is the starting point for the Christianization of Skandinavia. It was the main building materials provider of the world for Zar Peter the Great (1672 – 1725), which today can be admired in the Eremitage in St. Petersburg. The first German shipping line using steam vessels was based here, as well as the first German private owned cell phone company. Over the years, Schleswig remained a great place to live, a combination of technology and a great surrounding countryside.
Representing the traditions of Denmark and Germany both cultures and languages are vivid in Schleswig's everyday life.
Peter Gottwald started his professional career in the field of project cargo transportation in 1996. Since then he has designed all kinds of heavy lift operations. He also works on board of vessels as supercargo for carriers or as surveyor for shippers or as a consultant for manufacturers planning or producing heavy lift cargo like reactors, cranes or engines.
The world leading heavy lift shipping company, SAL (Schiffahrtskontor Altes Land), is one of the main clients of Gottwald engineering. Others are DFDS DanTransport, APL (Norway), Lürssen Shipyard, Coli Shipping and NorCargo. With a fleet of 14 heavy lift vessels with up to 700 ton lifting capacity as tandem lift, SAL is the flexiblest carrier on the world wide market. Peter Gottwald is also experienced in building yachts. He designed sailing- and motoryachts for several shipyards like Helmsman, Neva Nautic, Künemund Yachtbau or Helmut Dick.
